RAHAYU SUPANGGAH

CONCERT

This internationally acclaimed composer is the pioneer of New Music in Indonesia. He has composed for and collaborated with a notable number of artists, directors and choreographers all over the world.

Recently he has been working with the American theatre director Robert Wilson on I La Galigo, which unites theatre, dance, music and poetry to translate the Indonesian epic I La Galigo, with a cast of more than 50 Indonesian artists. The original music by Rahayu Supanggah has been inspired by the melodies and traditional musical elements of the people of South Sulawesi, mainly the Bugis people, where the epic comes from.

For the first time in Europe he will present a new special concert inspired by the diverse Indonesian music traditions.

Indonesia has been crossroad of international travel and commerce for centuries, and its diverse ethnic groups have developed their own unique cultural expressions, with the arts being influenced by the harmonious interaction and co-existence of many religions, including Animism, Hindu-Buddhism Christianity and Islam.

The concert reflects a variety of musical expressions that are still barely unknown to the European audience. Rahayu Supanggah will be accompanied by a group of musicians from allover the Indonesian archipelago.
